For decades Cerwin-Vega set the standard for bass horn technology with the world renowned L-36 PE “Portable Earthquake” and its successor, the SL-36B. Now Cerwin-Vega “Earthquake” performance is available in a compact 18” folded horn. The new LR-36 utilizes a newly designed 18” woofer with clean output at 35 Hz, and a unique bias control system for improved linearity and accurate “punch.” Innovative feature include:
NEWLY DESIGNED HIGH-EXCURSION WOOFER:
A unique double copper shorting ring keeps the voice coil “bias-stable” under high power conditions. The resting position of the cone remains constant due to significantly decreased flux modulation, resulting in improved linearity and better dynamics. The new high-compliance, high-excursion suspension system maintains linearity for decreased distortion (by as much as 10-15 dB!) between 35 and 60 Hz. The newly designed 18” driver features a 3” voice coil and an oversize magnet assembly.
INVERSE SLOT LOADING:
Reverse loading ofthe woofer utilizes inherent compression between the cone and the frame for improved linearity.Long-term power handling is improved since little or no heat is generated in the woofer chamber. Air cooling of the magnet assembly in the horn reduces power compression by as much as 2 to 3dB compared with conventional front loaded woofers in sealed woofer chambers. In terms ofoutput, this is like adding another woofer whenused under rigorous longtermhigh-power conditions.
OPTIMUM HORN PATH LENGTH FOR LOW CUTOFF FREQUENCY:
Coupled with the remarkable 18” driver is a folded horn with an optimum path length and a flare rate yielding a theoretical cutoff of 35 Hz. Coupling four LR-36 cabinets together will increase output at 35 Hz by more than 12 dB!
The LR-36 is recommended in all applications requiring a compact cabinet featuring high acoustic output, low distortion, and cost effectiveness in a highly portable system.
Cerwin-Vega’s dedication to product excellence routinely includes refinements in design, materials, and workmanship. This ongoing process may result in products which differ from those representedin our descriptive literature due to the improvements in design, performance, or both.
