Text Input and Display *1
The DN-C550R lets you input the disc title and titles for each track onto the
CD-R or CD-RW disc which can then be displayed on the unit's front panel. (These
items must be input before the disc recording is finalized.) The DN-C550R can
display text information on the display when playing CD Text discs which contain
text information in English.
A wealth of playback options
using both drives
- Dual Play mode lets you play discs simultaneously in both
the CD drive and the CD-R/CD-RW drive. Since sound can be output independently
from each drive, you can connect a commercially available mixer to enjoy mixing
the sound.
- The CD drive has a built-in HDCD decoder, which lets you
enjoy the improved fidelity of HDCD-encoded CDs.
- Repeat modes (1 Track / All Tracks / A-B).
- Mix Program Play mode, to enjoy programmed playback from
one or both drives.
- Mix Random Play mode, to enjoy random playback from one
or both drives.
- Relay Play mode, for automatic continuous playback from
the CD drive to the CD-R/RW drive.
Digital/Analog Recording Level
Adjustment with the jog dial
You can adjust recording level from -¥
to +12dB in analog and digital recordings.
Custom Index function
A desired name can be associated with the input jacks. This
is convenient for checking which equipment is connected with the input jacks.
*1: A portion of the text input on a commercially available disc supporting
CD Text may not be correctly displayed on the DN-C550R.
Note: CD-R audio discs recorded on the DN-C550R can be played on most, but not
all, standard CD players. CD-RW audio discs recorded on the DN-C550R cannot
be played on models that do not support CD-RW. Some DVD players can not playback
CD-R and/or CD-RW audio discs. Check your DVD player's owner's manual for further
information.

Frequently Asked Questions
What brands of media are suggested for the DN-C550R?
All Marantz Professional and Denon Professional CD recorders use both inexpensive
data CD-Rs/RWs as well as audio CD-Rs/RWs. Recently, the write speeds of CD-R/RWs
have increased dramatically. It’s not uncommon to only find CD-Rs certified
at 40x+ write speed. Because all of the professional CD recorders write in real-time
(1x speed), these faster CD-R’s are not recommended. The fastest CD-R
recommended for the professional CD recorders is 32x speed. And you want to
be sure to locate discs that are “up to 32x” or “1x-32x”
speed. This will certify them to be written to at 1x speed and be considerably
more compatible with your professional recorder.
Another aspect of CD-R technology is the type of dye used for the reflectivity
surface of the disc. Typically there are three different types of dye: Azo (Blue),
Cyanine (Green/Blue), and Phthalocyanine (Gold). Customers have reported that
discs using the Azo (Blue) type dye, are not reliable with the professional
branded recorders. The Cyanine (Green/Blue) discs tend to perform the best,
with the Phthalocyanine (Gold) discs being an intermediary choice between Azo
and Cyanine.
As far as what brands to purchase for your professional CD recorder, we recommend
purchasing brands like: TDK, Fuji, Apogee Gold, HHB Gold, Sony, Kodak Gold,
Klone, Philips, and Ricoh. In the past customers have reported problems with
brands like Maxell, Memorex, Imation, Comp USA, Office Depot, Verbatim, and
generic type (unbranded) CD-Rs.
